Ubuntu Colombia response to the application of RSM in FLISOL

by Jhosman on 31 marzo, 2013

Richard Matthew Stallman

Involvement of Ubuntu in “Flisoles”, is evident in the Wiki FLISOL there already confirmed 16 cities http://flisol.info/FLISOL2013/Colombia which is requested by Andres Mujica Checkout promotional material to Canonical Ubuntu. On the subject tried to install Ubuntu and promoting events in Flisol agreement was reached by a vote of the council of ignoring the warning made by Richard Stallman.

http://www.mail-archive.com/flisol@listas.flisol.info/msg00385.html
Proposal is presented as the following: Inform users (visitors) about the type of licensing that uses Ubuntu, use proprietary drivers and also recommend disable or uninstall Ubuntu Lens. Or it is second option “Do nothing”

On behalf of the community and the voting starts http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2013/03/28/%23ubuntu-co-meeting.html#t02:53 where it is agreed that Colombia asked to Ubuntu Flisol organizers in Colombia particiación and will ignore the request by Richard Stallman.

AndresMujica: “I honestly think that this question is irrelevent to the matter of this meeting… we’re getting off topic. About disabling or not lens, I believe we’re taking decisions on behalf of end user’s and they are the ones who should decide by themselves, not us. And about informing it should limit to what is worth it, from what I see the first step for a new user is to learn that there’s something besides Windows, once that step is taken they probably would discover easily the Free Software topic and make his/her own informed decisions.

Our mission and focus is not to justify or defend ourselves from RMS, our mission and focus is to extend and take Ubuntu to the ones who aren’t aware of it. There’s nothing real neither concrete that we can do to solve the open or closed drivers issue. The only thing we can do now is to help spread Ubuntu in order to reach the critical mass point required.

At that moment, the very same mass of users will make the vendors to look around and take action.. not before.Canonical doesn’t have the capacity or even the strength to guarantee that everything in the future would be free. In fact, I don’t think that such a document as requested by julianarmando even exists, just because it doesn’t make any sense it’s existence.”

best regards,Andrés

Ubuntu Colombia, in different events Flisol of Colombia, if the organization of each city allows our participation, we will install the following:

Ubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04.2 (for units with optimal hardware)
Lubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04.2 (For teams of “low income”)

// Topic discussed at another meeting that was held staff via IRC which can find the log in http://titanpad.com/jUZBScukwI (the meeting were present in 2 of the 5 members of the council of Ubuntu Colombia, one could say a decision supported since the other three are scattered throughout the rest of the country)

While we consider the “problem” as RSM is from when the default was triggered Lens Amazon (len not say more here) which we can see your ad in the default activation http://www.genbeta.com/linux/ubuntu-12-10-incluira-enlaces-a-productos-de-amazon-al-buscar-en-unity or  http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/11/how-to-install-a-dedicated-amazon-shopping-lens-in-ubuntu

In Ubuntu 12.04.2 is only possible to install this and other activating lens PPA and doing a manual install, unless the user (you should already know about it or listening to) the ask the installer:

For example: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/07/unity-news-lens-adds-updates-with-local-features

As a side note for you, I’m Raring tester Ubuntu since version 4.13 Alpha and this comes with the Lens “Amazon” Deactivate.

#Edubuntu by a child – Merry Christmas 2012

by Jhosman on 26 diciembre, 2012

Click here to read full article with multimedia.

On behalf of the community of Ubuntu LoCo Team Colombia, I Jhosman I am pleased to announce Lizarazo and inform them about the Christmas special gift that would make the Community which was announced by the social networks:

We can see that many called CD’s and things that only sought to fill personal expectations, have called Nexus 7 with Ubuntu, Dell computers last generation with Ubuntu and the like, but for me this is not part of philosophy Ubuntu, so some time ago I proposed a project called “Edubuntu by a child” by which initially give you a huge thanks because without the support of these people would never have achieved this.

Camila Lozano – (In the company where they had a machine that was already considered trash and donated a computer computer Dell Inspiron 6400)

Steven Y. Barrantes Briceño – Person who has donated a 120GB hard drive and that I had (500GB) was damaged and could not be repaired

Edubuntu Team, Team  Kiwix and me Jhosman Lizarazo – because the team has been installed Edubuntu operating system, the computer has other good Wikipedia Offline and I made many adjustments for this new computer was totally useful for training and education any child.

A personally say “This technological inclusion if” many entities and / or groups called technological inclusion and give more to those who already have, so I looked for this project is to create a real digital inclusion for people who really do not have nothing, or have no way to gain access to technology and free software for economic problem. Therefore previous days I made a call via Facebook and Twitter to inform me of possible candidates to give this computer.

Called which if got several answers but really only a committed and a true story, a girl named Laura who lives without parents, currently (since baby) is raised by her grandmother and she has to find a way to survive . Laura is a very smart girl, but says it requires such support to carry out their student activities. So I decided to give the computer to it. Here is a letter that has left us:

This really is inclusion, and know that it is not an art machine, is a gift that is truly “zero Colombian pesos” (well we must add what hard drive cost, time investment for configuration team total was a full month for the delays that occurred in addition to the donation of the computer)

This community wish a Merry Christmas.

Ubuntu Colombian Team has decided to “break the routine” and this time we have taken to the streets of Bogota, to Ubuntizar the planet! Colombia is very common in the December 7 to celebrate the day of the candles, which celebrates the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. Personally I could not stand to accompany my companions, but in my case I’m at the end of that semester and it is very difficult for these Listed Dates Listed, but would have loved.

And most importantly, the value of family, our community is a large and loving family.

Participating members were:

Activities during the night of celebration were:

  • Give CD’s and DVD’s of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise and 12.10 Quantal
  • They handed out fliers on Ubuntu
  • We realized that since the program was suspended Shipit Ubuntu, the “common user” has lost interest and looks much more difficult to access a Linux distribution (Ubuntu)

#ucaday My day of Ubuntu Community Appreciation Day

by Jhosman on 20 noviembre, 2012

This type of publication is not common in my blog, but as agreed today November 20th should be celebrated on the Comuniad Appreciation Ubuntu so dedicate this book to several people, including several of my community (Ubuntu Colombian Team)

Really belong to this world since 2007 and initially Canonical thank for letting me know all this world of Linux, Ubuntu and Free Software through the program that appeared in that year (shipit) is totally gave me access to this great system operating from entoces (as often happens in Colombia through education we have) was a common Windows user simply fascinating and thought the idea of having an album (besides being nice) of a Linux distribution, which was ready for be used on my computer.

I remember one of the things that was promised support and help collaborative community for which I give my first thanks to Xavier Corredor Llano person who guided me very beginning (I know I was very upset by asking questions, but were necessary in I was really fascinated with Ubuntu). The person was basically that I “taught to walk” in ubuntu hereinafter learned many things to finally end up being one of the Community Council of Ubuntu Colombia.

Henceforth list a short list of people to whom I thank for their large and small contributions to the community.

THANKS UBUNTU!!!

GRACIAS UBUNTU!!!
